Google-the Giant Search Engine. Google, an institution of Google Inc, started its journey in January 1996 as a web search engine. It is so named to be a sign that the search engine was planned to supply immense information. Internet-related services and products like online advertising, search, software etc. are the field of its specialization. It manages around 3 billion searches each day. According to a report of February 2015, Google is the most used search engine holding 64.5% market share in the US. AdWords are the main source of its income. Goggle indexes billions of web pages for its users daily. Users get their desired information with a single click.

History:

Google started its journey as a research project by Larry and Sergey who were PhD students of Stanford University. They own about 14 percent of its shares. They also manage 56 percent of the stockholder voting power. While traditional search engines counted number of the search to rank pages, Google ranked pages taking the relationships between websites into consideration. Since 1996, Robin Li’s small search engine named “RankDex” was applying similar policy for scoring and ranking pages. RankDex was only just founded in July 1999 and was used later when Li founded Baidu in China. Page and Brin named their new search engine “BackRub” since it too put emphasis on backlinks. In the end, they changed the name to Google. At the beginning, Google ran under Stanford University’s website using their domains google.stanford.edu and z.stanford.edu. Later, on 15 September, 1997; the area name for Google got registered. The company was incorporated on 4 September, 1998. It started with a view to organizing the world’s information universally available and useful. Google has truly proved that people may explore and manage many honest ways to earn. From 2004, Google manages its operations from new headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Merits and Demerits of Google:

Google provides its users desired information along with a wide range and variety of sources. It puts the sites which contain much information at the top of the list. Google indexes popular PDF file format and Microsoft Office files which are far better than “html” and “htm” format used by others. This allows users to save information with great relief. With its user friendly activities, Google’s popularity is still rising. Along with all the good sides Google has some limitations too. Googles function is restricted in comparison to other websites. It does not go through enough customization.
